After 2 years in Theta…

by rising third-year Nadine Menna

When I was going through recruitment, I had yet to experience what “Theta pride” was. I wondered, how someone could be so proud to represent their sorority? I was convinced by their sincerity and genuine love of theta. There must be quite a reason to be so proud to say “I’m a theta,” and what I can tell you is that they were absolutely right.

When joining a sorority, first you become a part of it, then it becomes a part of you.

Thetas are leaders, always finding a way to make their personal endeavors succeed and individual dreams a reality. The vibe that is created when you are surrounded by a group of extremely driven women is invigorating. What was told to me during my Pref night in Theta, was that “Theta is an extremely impressive group of women.” Little did I know, that if I wanted help achieving my life goals, Theta is accountable for introducing me to my daily inspiration.

After 3 years in Theta…

by rising fourth-year Celeste Henkelmann

Becoming a Theta is a growing process. One of our members, as she was going through recruitment last year, said it best: “The other sorority is where I am, Theta is where I want to be.” I have been a Theta for four years and I am still learning what it means to be a Theta.

Each of my sisters are so different from one another. A few years ago, we were asked to “wear shoes that reflect who we are.” The room was filled with rugby shoes, high top nikes (that I could pull off), five inch stilettos, you name it…a sister wore it. The common thread between these women, wasn’t a color or matching shirt (although we do love those), but it is the notion that we each strive to be the best at who we are. There is no pre-fabricated mold of a Theta.

Rising fourth-year Ellie Roberts began her internship at the UChicago Hospital MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics last year as a Metcalf Scholar, and is now working there as a regular intern. Given that her HIPSS major concentration is ‘studies in medical ethics’, she claims her internship was perfect for her, since the whole mission of the Center is to improve the standard of care within hospitals. The MacLean center runs amazing education programs for doctors, lawyers, and religion students, and it has been ranked #1 Medical Ethics Center in the U.S.
